Bird Friendly Organic Fair Trade Coffee

El Salvadore Bird Friendly Coffee

In 2002 we started selling bird friendly coffee roasted by a small local roaster located in the picturesque village of Creemore, The Creemore Coffee Company. The selection was small but the quality was great. Now the selection of blends is large and the quality continues to be one of the best. Enticing aroma, superb flavour and smooth finish are the hallmarks of these blends.
The Creemore Coffee Company ( started operations in the year 2000 and quickly realized that their "idea of quality" had "evolved beyond simply great taste" and it was their "interest in nature and especially birding" that lead them "to discover the serious issues surrounding the modern production methods used for coffee." It was then that the Creemore Coffee Company made the commitment to bring shade grown bird friendly, certified fair trade organic coffee to the Canadian market.
Creemore Coffee features a large selection of coffee beans that have been certified Fair Trade through Fairtrade Canada. This designation helps "...ensure the farmers and artisans behind those products get a better deal. Most often this is understood to mean better prices for producers, but it often means longer-term and more meaningful trading relationships as well."
Some Creemore coffees are certified through the Rainforest Alliance. The Rainforest Alliance " to conserve biodiversity and ensure sustainable livelihoods by transforming land-use practices, business practices and consumer behavior." The Alliance is responsible for educating coffee farmers to the benefits of growing coffee under a forest canopy which supports our migratory birds such as the Baltimore orioles, Tennessee and Cape May warblers.
Creemore also offers some blends that have been certified bird friendly through the Smithsonian Institute. The Smithsonian Institute recognizes that shade-grown coffee plantations "Play a key role in the conservation of migratory birds, which find a sanctuary in their forest-like environment. The Smithsonian Migratory Bird Center (SMBC) has developed the only 100%-organic shade-grown coffee certification."
The Creemore Coffee Company ensures their support of coffee farmers through the Fair Trade program but  they go even further by supporting "women only" coffee farming through their Cafe Femenino which is an organic coffee produced exclusively by women in Peru.
Creemore's Primate Blend which is certified organic and fair trade is part of the Primate's World Relief and Development Fund (PWRDF). The PWRDF "is the Anglican Church of Canada's agency for sustainable development, relief, refugees, and global justice...PWRDF strives to be a part of the outreach ministry of every Canadian Anglican parish and an expression for all Anglicans of their baptismal covenant to strive for justice and peace and to respect the dignity of every human being." Some of the proceeds from each sale goes to support this worthy cause.
At Wild Birds Unlimited we believe in supporting products that help make a better life for people, support the environment and help ensure the survival of our birds.
Creemore coffees are available as ground or beans in medium, dark and espresso roasts. A 300g package retails from $11.95 to $12.95.
