Spring Migration
Orioles and Ruby-throated Hummingbirds have commenced their northern migration. Baltimore Orioles have been observed in New York State, while Ruby-throated Hummingbirds have already crossed the Gulf of Mexico. Now is the time to prepare for their arrival in the GTA. Our first in-store bird sightings for 2025 for the Baltimore Orioles was April 26 and the Ruby-throated Hummingbird was April 30.
Journey North sightings as of March 30:
- Baltimore Oriole - Oklahoma - 2,245 km south/west of the GTA
- Ruby-throated Hummingbid - Massachusetts 900 km south/east of the GTA.
Once they Arrive...
You have the opportunity to enjoy these colourful, cheerful birds throughout the entire summer. Our in-store Bird Sightings records for 2025 show that Baltimore Orioles and Ruby-throated Hummingbirds were sighted from June through September in the GTA. This is supported by eBird records from 2023, 2024 and 2025. These ongoing spring/summer sightings confirm that Baltimore Orioles and Ruby-throated Hummingbird's nest in the GTA, which is very exciting!
