Fall Migration Magic at Colonel Sam Smith Park — Join Our Beginner‑Friendly Bird Walk!
Bird walk update - it's a go!
Fall is one of the most exciting times to explore Colonel Sam Smith Park — the air is crisp, the lake is lively, and migrating birds are on the move.
Whether you’re brand new to birding or already hooked, this guided walk is designed to be easygoing, welcoming, and full of discovery.
We’ll keep our eyes out for sparrows, kinglets, late-season swallows, and of course the confusing, challenging, but always fun world of fall warblers.
Yellow-rumps, Palms, Nashvilles, Blackpolls — they’re all dressed in their subtle autumn outfits, and we’ll help you learn the tricks to tell them apart.
It’s a relaxed pace, lots of learning, lots of “wow, I didn’t know that,” and plenty of chances to enjoy the park’s beautiful fall scenery.
After the walk, swing by the store to keep the birding fun going —
try a round of Wingspan, the award‑winning bird‑themed board game where you build habitats, attract species, and discover even more about the birds you love.
It’s the perfect cozy fall activity after a morning outdoors.
Come for the birds, stay for the community — we’d love to see you there.
Participation is limited to 30 registered attendees, so please register in advance. Binoculars are encouraged if you have them. The route may go beyond paved trails, so come prepared for wet or muddy ground and wear sturdy, suitable footwear.
