20 Years of Bringing People and Nature Together

Saturday, January 09, 2021 was the 20th anniversary of our purchase of the store!

Where has the time gone? It’s been a whirlwind of great times, meeting so many great customers, making new friends, working with great employees and working with great vendors and head office mentors.

We were the parents of small kids, still in elementary school, when we started our new adventure in retail. We were customers of the first owners, Sandi and David, and loved the store philosophy of supporting nature in your own backyard. Eight years later the store was for sale, we were tempted but the timing was not quite right. Two years later, still for sale and the timing was right and we decided to make our passion for nature our business.

Our passion for birds and nature has grown and continues to grow. Our birding passion evolved into joining Citizen Science projects like Project FeederWatch, Eastern Whip-poor-will Survey, Marsh Monitoring and native pollinator bee monitoring (BIMBY), then years of training to become licensed bird banders to take an active part in scientific research projects to better understand how birds, nature and people interact. Now as grandparents we hope the research we take part in will help provide valuable information to help save all the birds and preserve nature for our grandchildren.

We would like to thank all of you for your continued support, and loyalty! We think of all of you as family and treasure all our fun conversations and sharing of pictures and family happenings.

We would like to thank our fantastic team - Kyle, Barb and Paul. We are so lucky to have you with us, putting your heart and soul into it with us. And a thank-you to Sandi and David Dix, the original store owners for the first 10 years. Sandi spent many hours mentoring us when we took over.

It was a dream of ours that has become true and that has happened because of all of you! It really is true that time flies when you’re having fun! Thank you all from the bottom of our hearts.

The current social restrictions do not allow for the celebration this milestone deserves.  We will have a proper and fitting celebration when we can all get back together in person in one place to talk and share the fun and joyful stories of our birding adventures.

"We Bring People and Nature Together and We do it With Excellence!"
